Greetings and welcome to Battle Lake Public School!  Our school is truly an amazing place!  We have the finest staff and students in Western Minnesota and our recent string of awards has placed our school in the spotlight for exemplary education in both the state and nation.

2009 brought several distinguished awards.  In January, our district was the only K-12 organization to receive the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation’s Spotlight on Schools award.  We followed that up with a Star of Innovation Award from the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals in June.  In December, we were listed as one of the Best High Schools in America by U.S. News & World Reports!  What a year!

Our school’s values are what many might consider to be old-fashioned – academic rigor, hard work, integrity, responsibility, accountability, respect and compassion.  We still believe in those and feel they are essential to raising kids that will become productive citizens.   However, we pair that value-system with an ever-evolving, innovative and engaging curriculum that will prepare our graduates to compete world-wide in today’s global job market. 

We were one of only three schools in the general vicinity that met Minnesota’s testing standards in all areas.  We expose all students to art, music, robotics, entrepreneurship, Glendalough Academy, career development and leadership while building a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math as we continuously develop each student’s base of core knowledge.  Both Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are offered through face to face instruction – not interactive television!  In fact, for a school of our size, I can think of no other school in the area that offers the depth and breadth of curricular options found here.  

Our facility is top-notch with a breathtaking auditorium and newly remodeled science wing.  We place value on technology as it supports classroom instruction as our school has 357 computers (4 computer labs) and 13 Smart Boards in classrooms. We also maintain of some of the finest athletic facilities for a school of our size including the new addition of an all-weather track.
