TITLE:             Spanish I

PREREQUISITES:  A “B” average or better in English and Students in Grades 10 - 12

DESCRIPTION:  Students will learn to speak, write, read and comprehend Spanish through actions, and storytelling.

OUTCOMES:
1.         Students will be able demonstrate comprehension and retell stories in Spanish in the present tense.
2.         Students will be able to create their own stories in Spanish.
3.         Students will have a working vocabulary of 500 words.

ORGANIZATION:      Year long

 

 

TITLE:             Spanish II

PREREQUISITES:  A “C” average or better in Spanish I, and in Grades 11 or 12

DESCRIPTION:  A continuation of Spanish I.

OUTCOMES:
1.         Students will be able to retell stories in Spanish in the past tense.
2.         Students will be able to retell stories in Spanish in the first, second and third person(s).
3.         Students will have a working vocabulary of 1000 words.
            
ORGANIZATION:      Year long


TITLE:             Spanish III

PREREQUISITES:  A “B” average or better in Spanish II and Students in Grade 12 

DESCRIPTION:  A continuation of Spanish II.  Students will read authentic texts in Spanish.  There will be a focus on writing and grammar in this course.

OUTCOMES:
1.         Students will be able to function in a Spanish speaking country.  They will be able to communicate in the target language to get their basic needs met.
2.         Students will have basic cultural literacy – demonstrating culturally appropriate behavior.

ORGANIZATION:      Year long

 

TITLE:             Chinese 1 
PREREQUISITES: none
DESCRIPTION:  Students will learn to speak, write, read and comprehend Mandarin Chinese using BetterChinese language books, as well as with actions and a conversation based curriculum. 
OUTCOMES:
Students will be able to have basic conversations in Chinese. They will be able to recognize around 350 characters, and read and write in pinyin. They will learn to write close to 100 characters. 
ORGANIZATION:      Year long

TITLE:             Chinese 2 
PREREQUISITES:  Chinese 1
DESCRIPTION:  A continuation of Chinese 1.
OUTCOMES:
Students will become more comfortable in their conversing ability, have a larger vocabulary, have greater reading ability (not relying as much on pinyin) and be able to write short paragraphs in Chinese.  
            
ORGANIZATION:      Year long


TITLE:             Chinese 3 
PREREQUISITES:  Chinese 2
DESCRIPTION:  A continuation of Chinese 2.
OUTCOMES:
Students listening, reading, writing and speaking will continue to mature. They will also have a good understanding of elements of Chinese culture. They will be well on their way to becoming functioning Chinese speakers. We will write a short paper all in Characters
