School Readiness is a program for children ages 3-5 years of age. Children learn different skills at different times and different paces. School Readiness tries to narrow the gap between children so that all children are prepared for Kindergarten. Our School Readiness program offers two options for children: 3-year-old all day and 4&5-year-old all day. 3-year-old all day meeting twice a week from 8:00-3:15. The 4&5-year-old program meets 2-3 days/week from 8-3:15 daily.

Here at Battle Lake, our program is center-based. Our centers consist of:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Math/Science
  • Dramatic Play
  • Blocks
  • Art

In addition, we have:

  • Circle time (songs, story, calendar, jobs, letter of week, etc.)
  • Morning Breakfast/snack
  • Table time (complete an activity of day)
  • Library
  • Outside
  • Chinese (4-5s)
  • Afternoon snack (4-5s)
  • and much, much more!

Children learn best through play. Our focus is on the "Whole-Child" with an emphasis on literacy development. That means we look at all areas of development:

  • Social/emotional (self-concept, learning to play with others, etc.)
  • Adaptive (developing independence in washing hands, pouring milk, etc.)
  • Literacy (pre-reading, pre-writing, verbal communication)
  • Fine motor skills (manipulation w/ fingers) and Gross motor skills (running, jumping, hopping)
  • Cognitive ("thinking"- colors, numbers, letters, shapes)
