The Battle Lake FFA Forestry Team, consisting of freshmen Braden Carlson, Jonny Fielding, Jack Parker, Nick Wendland and Tommy Ehlert placed third in the regional contest and qualified for the Minnesota State FFA Forestry CDE in St. Paul, MN next April.
This year the contest consisted of identifying 25 Minnesota tree species and 10 lumber samples, completing a map feature identification test, calculating forest business expenses and income based on tree density, cruising timber to find the marketable board feet of lumber in individual trees, navigating a compass course and taking a 50 question test on forests and forest products.
Braden led the team by placing fourth individually and Jonny also made the top ten, placing eighth.
