IMMUNIZATIONS

School immunization law changes yearly. It remains a challenge for the health office to ensure all students are immunized according to the law. Most recent changes include getting a tetanus-diptheria (Td) booster after turning 11 years old. All kindergartners are required to have the 3 dose Hepatitis B series and 7th graders will be required to have the Hepatitis B series prior to entering school in the fall. Currently, all students must have received 5 dosages of DTaP (Diptheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis), 4 dosages of polio, and 2 MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), and 2 doses of varicella vaccine, unless your child has had chickenpox. Starting fall of 2010, if your child has had chickenpox, you will need a form signed by your doctor saying that your child does not need the varicella vaccine.
