The Battle Lake Mock Trial Team won all four of its regular season trials this year, defeating New York Mills, Bemidji, Apollo, and St. John's Prep. The team now advances to the Regional Championship next week.
The team attorneys are Kyleigh Shebeck, Riley Johnson, Graycie Cameron, Nelson Hubert, and Hailey Rasmussen. The witnesses are portrayed by Graycie Cameron, Nelson Hubert, Madison Molter, Hailey Rasmussen, Keira Shebeck, Trevor Stans, and Connor Wicklund. The timekeepers are Trevor Stans and Connor Wicklund. Bailiffs were Hailey Rasmussen and Connor Wicklund.
This year’s fictional criminal case is brought against a printing company, Smiley Inc, which is charged with illegal discharging of a toxic chemical into a river. Lawyers and witnesses for the team prepared and presented both sides of the case, serving as prosecution in two of the trials and representing the defendant in the other two trials.
