The Battle Lake FFA Soils Evaluation Team placed second in the Region 3 FFA event on October 7th in Alexandria. The team consisted of Elizabeth Radermacher, Kyleigh Shebeck, TJ Underhill, Kyler Leabo and Will Ehlert. With their second place finish they have qualified for the Minnesota FFA State Convention contest to be held in April.
Elizabeth led the team by placing third individually in the contest and newcomer Kyleigh placed eight individually. The Soils CDE required the students to evaluate a soil's physical properties and make land use recommendations for production agriculture and home-site development. The students had to be able to estimate slope, texture soil and interpret nutrient levels and make fertilizer recommendations.
The FFA is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
