FFA Members from Battle Lake and Underwood showcased their talents at the Minnesota State Fair and the members earned numerous top placings and championships. With so many high class placings to count, we can only give you a highlight of their numerous achievements.
BEEF:
Cooper Dorn got 3rd in his class of Angus March Jr. Yearling Heifers.
SHEEP:
Keira Thompson-Ohren received 2nd in her class and Champion Individual Sheep Herdsman (how presentable and clean your space and animals are).
SWINE:
The members all earned high placements within every single one of their classes, regularly placing in the top of their classes. All members that competed in the Swine Show also came home with some honors. Blake Wolden received first in the January Breeding Spot category and Champion Spotted Gilt. Bristol Wolden received first in the Early January Yorkshire Breeding Gilt category, Reserve Champion Yorkshire Gilt, and Reserve Champion Middleweight Gilt. Keira Thompson-Ohren received First in the categories of January Breeding Duroc, February Breeding Spot, and Heavyweight Barrow. She also received Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt, Reserve Champion Spotted Gilt, and Champion AOB (All Other Breeds) Market Hog.
SHOWMANSHIP:
Showmanship is a competition that measures the skill and ability of the FFA Exhibitors themselves. It is measured by how the exhibitor presents, controls, and showcases their animal to the judge. Needless to say, the members of the FFA Chapter knew how to show. Cooper Dorn received Champion Beef Jr. Showman. Blake Wolden received Reserve Swine Jr. Showman. Keira Thompson-Ohren received Reserve Swine Intermediate Showman.
CHAPTER HONORS:
Bristol, Blake, and Keira earned the chapter Reserve Breeding Exhibit (second best breeding swine overall), Reserve Grand Champion Swine Exhibit (second-best overall swine overall), and Champion Herdsmanship.
The accomplishments at the State Fair represent the hard work and dedication these FFA members put into their animals throughout the year. From raising and caring for their livestock to preparing for the show ring, their success reflects countless hours of work and preparation.
Congratulations to all of the Battle Lake and Underwood FFA members who represented their chapter at the Minnesota State Fair.
